OUR APPROACH
Children and adolescents are growing up in cities without access to
healthy food or safe spaces to play. The lack of availability,
affordability and appeal of healthy food and spaces for physical
activity increases a child’s risk of living with overweight or
obesity.
Childhood obesity is a complex problem shaped by
a broad range of biological, environmental and socioeconomic factors.
Children living with obesity are more likely to develop
non-communicable diseases, such as type 2 diabetes at an early age,
increasing the risk for long-term health problems.1
Cities for Better Health drives impactful and scalable
community-based interventions for the prevention of childhood obesity.
Together with local stakeholders, we aim to improve the short and
long-term health of children in vulnerable communities through
deep-dive obesity interventions in six countries.
