The Cities Changing Diabetes 10-year review report explores the programme's impact and value since its inception in 2014. The review findings will help the programme achieve greater impact under the new Cities for Better Health initiative.

Program review

The review highlights the programme's progression, from its initial focus on research through its mid-decade focus on advocacy and awareness to its most recent phase, which drives action through strengthened resources and capacity building with local partners.

Examples of value and impact throughout 2014-2023 are highlighted, including partner influences on policy changes for improved diabetes management in Mérida, Mexico, the shaping of national guidelines in China, and many more. Case studies and testimonials show how city leaders and stakeholders have been engaged and taken action to integrate health into urban planning and community initiatives.

The review reveals the aspects of the programme most highly valued by cities and partners and underscores the significance of collaboration in achieving sustainable change.

“Importantly, the review is about more than looking backwards; the first-hand testimony from partners with many years’ experience has been influential in shaping how we mobilise and operationalise the learnings to help us achieve our goals for Cities for Better Health,” says Jo Jewell, Director, Cities for Better Health.
